Mission Statement: "We glorify God by making disciples in our homes, in our community, and in the world ." Our mission is to be faithful to the Great Commission, which is Christ’s final instruction prior to His resurrection. Each of the gospels and Acts reveal Christ’s instruction for His followers to make disciples (Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:14-20; Luke 24:44-53; John 20:21-23; Acts 1:8). This mission is accomplished when Christians engage others in gospel conversations. Therefore, we want to be faithful to Christ’s words by intentionally sharing the gospel in our homes, our community, and then to the nations. Our Strategy. Homes — We make disciples in our homes by regularly having conversations that deepen our commitment to Christ and His Word. We believe the home is the primary location for discipleship. The body of Christ is strengthened when families are personally committed to fostering a commitment to Christ in the home. Both the Old and New Testament speak to the responsibilities of godly people in the home (Deut. 6:4-7; Col. 3:18-25). Therefore, the Christian’s primary responsibility it to be making disciples in our homes. Community — We make disciples in our community by investing in relationships that connect people to Christ and His bride. We believe God strategically places people and churches in a particular location for the purpose of being His witnesses to the people in that community. The missionary strategy of the New Testament shows that once a city was evangelized and disciples were made, churches were formed, and leaders were installed to govern and shepherd the people (Acts 14:19-23). Each church would serve as the gospel witness to its community. World — We make disciples in the world by generously giving and joyfully going to the nations in obedience to Christ and His mission. We believe that while sharing the gospel begins in our homes and spreads to our community, the Christians should participate in evangelistic efforts around the world where gospel access is restricted. We participate in the global mission of Christ by generously giving financial support to the efforts of missions and going to the nations with the good news of Christ’s gospel (Matt. 28:19).

We are a Southern Baptist church in the southwest Birmingham and west Bessemer area. What to Expect. Pleasant Ridge gathers every Sunday at 10:30 am to worship the Lord together. We desire the beautiful diversity of God's people in our city to come together to display our unity in Jesus. Please come as you are, and our prayer is that the Lord will use our times of worship together to transform us all more into the image of Jesus. PARKING There are several spots available for parking around our campus, but we have designated parking areas for use every Sunday and Wednesday. North Parking Lot: This parking lot connects you to Sanctuary and Youth facilities. South Parking Lot: This parking lot connects you to the offices, Sanctuary, small groups, and Children's facilities. ATTIRE When it comes to attire, we very much encourage you to come as you are. You will see many of our members wearing a variety of clothing options: casual, dressy, etc. We encourage you to wear whatever is comfortable and makes sense for you. CHILDREN ' S MINISTRY The Children's Ministry accommodates children from birth through 5th grade. Our Children’s Ministry is called Ridge Kids, and it meets on the second floor of the south wing. You can access this floor from the doors directly across from the playground at the back of the building. The curriculum they use is designed to walk them through the basics of the Christian faith and point them to Jesus and what he has accomplished for them. For more information visit The Ridge: Kids . STUDENT MINISTRY The Student ministry is for grades 6th through 12th grade. Ridge: Students meet on the second floor on the right side of the sanctuary. You can access the student space from the North Parking lot by the door to the right of the sanctuary. Follow the Ridge: Student signs to the second floor. The student ministry is designed to build upon the basics of the Christian faith and go a bit deeper into doctrine as it relates to the individual and how it applies to life. WORSHIP Our worship is a blend of traditional and contemporary. We have a praise team and a choir. You will hear a mix of traditional hymns and modern Christian songs. We are a Southern Baptist church in the southwest Birmingham and west Bessemer area. Jake Kersh Jake has been in ministry since 2010. He has served as a student pastor across the state of Alabama. He grew up in Adamsville, Alabama in a small mining community called Bayview. He graduated from Southeastern Bible College (2017) with a major in Bible and Theology. He graduated from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (2022) with his Masters of Divinity. Jake has been married to Natasha since July 2014. They have two children. He enjoys reading studying, and arguing about biblical theology, missions, and progressive covenantalism. His passion in ministry is discipling students. He thoroughly enjoys going into the backcountry to camp, hunt large animals, and catch three-inch fish in far-off places. Jake's pastoral role at Pleasant Ridge includes: teaching, preaching, and overseeing the pastoral care of middle school and high school students, maintaining the various media of the church. Serve. We believe every member should serve the local church because God has given each Christian particular gifts for service according to His grace (Rom. 12:6-8). We have a variety of ways for members to serve at PRBC. Ridge: Kids — Our children’s ministry oversees children ages birth through 5th grade. Ministry Safe Training required Ridge: Students — Our student ministry oversees students from 6th grade through 12th grade. The student ministry is very active.
