About the event
The Costume Showdown
The Costume Showdown is the 9th annual fall tradition at Pleasant Ridge Student Ministry that brings together costumes, competition, and community for a fun night designed for students and their friends. This year, students will compete in a Super Smash Bros. tournament on Nintendo Switch while showing up dressed in their best costumes. More than just a tournament, The Costume Showdown is a chance for students to connect, invite friends, and enjoy being together as part of our student ministry. Join us Wednesday, October 21, for a night of competition, costumes, and plenty of fun as we find out who will come out on top!
What to Expect
Come hungry! Food will be provided for everyone during The Costume Showdown, so students can grab something to eat, hang out with friends, and enjoy the tournament throughout the night. There’s no need to bring dinner—just show up ready for a great night together.
Start Planning Your Costume
The costume is half the fun! Students can come dressed as their favorite movie or TV character, athlete, video game character, superhero, historical figure, or come up with something completely original. Grab a few friends and plan a group costume, recreate a famous duo, or see who can come up with the most creative idea.
Costumes should be appropriate for a church student ministry environment. Please avoid costumes that are overly graphic, frightening, suggestive, or include realistic weapons. The goal is simple: be creative, have fun, and make it something everyone can enjoy.
Bring Your Friends
The Costume Showdown is one of the easiest nights of the year to invite someone new to Pleasant Ridge Students. You don’t have to overthink the invitation—send them the event page, share one of our posts, or simply ask, “Want to come to The Costume Showdown with me?”
Better yet, make a plan together. Pick your costumes, create a group theme, practice your Smash skills, and show up together on October 21. Whether your friend has been to church before or has never walked through our doors, they’re invited to be part of the night.
