About the event

I-II Samuel focuses on the transition of Israel from a confederation of tribes to a unified monarchy under Saul and later David. Throughout these narratives, the theme of trusting in the sovereignty of God is prominent.

I Samuel begins with the birth and early life of Samuel, the last judge of Israel. Despite the corruption and waywardness of the people, God remains sovereign and actively guides events. The people demand a king to be like other nations, and though it goes against God's ideal, He allows it, demonstrating His sovereignty over human desires and decisions.

Saul is chosen as the first king of Israel but fails to fully trust in God's guidance, leading to his downfall. In contrast, David, anointed by Samuel as the future king, exemplifies trust in God. Despite facing numerous trials and challenges—from Saul's jealousy to personal sins—David consistently relies on God's sovereignty for protection, guidance, and deliverance.

The sovereignty of God is evident in the way He directs events to fulfill His purposes, such as establishing David as king despite obstacles. Even in moments of crisis and human failure, God's sovereignty ensures His plans prevail, illustrating the importance of trusting in Him rather than human strength or wisdom.

Overall, I-II Samuel emphasizes that trusting in the sovereignty of God means acknowledging His ultimate control over events, even amidst human frailty and disobedience. It encourages reliance on God's guidance and faithfulness, knowing that His plans will ultimately come to pass.
