About the event
Series Summary: The apostle Peter, one of the original twelve disciples, writes to a large audience of Christians scattered over roughly 300,000 square miles (1 Pet. 1:1). This is now his second letter to the churches of Asia Minor (2 Pet. 3:1). The purpose of his second letter is to remind Christians (2 Pet 1:12-13, 3:1-2, 9) that God is faithful to His promises. Therefore, we should persevere in faith and hope, though false teachers are attempting to dissuade Christians from living by faith in God and His promises (2 Pet. 2:1). However, Peter offers words of hope that God is not slow in fulfilling His promises (2 Pet. 3:9); instead, we should be looking for the Lord’s return which will come suddenly (2 Pet. 3:10). Knowing then, that God’s promises are intact, Christians should be found faithful, pursuing righteousness, and bearing fruit. To motivate Christians to be strong in their faith, Peter emphasizes that we should remember God's promises and that He is faithful to His Word.
